Your excellency
We are the elected committee of journalists in the region Gävleborg in Sweden, representing 296 active journalists at newspapers, radiostations and tv-channels.
We are very concerned about the safety of our colleague, and fellow Swedish citizen, Dawit Isaac, who was arrested two years ago in the eritrean capital Asmara.
He was among nine other journalists and eleven members of parliament who was imprisoned at the same time without prosecution and trial in court.
He worked as a reporter at the independent newspaper Setit, which were shut down by the police.
The local authoritys have denied his family and lawyer to have contact with Dawit Isaac. And even representatives from the Swedish government have been denied to get in contact with their citizen.
We consider him as a prisoner of consciense, imprisoned solely because of his legitimate work as journalist, where he fought for democracy in Eritrea.
His arresting is illegal and violate both the eritrean constitution and the international human rights.
We appeal to You to let his family, legal representative, human rights and humanitarian organizations, as well as representatives from the Swedish government, to come in contact with him.
And we appeal for him, and the other prisoners of consciense in Your country, to be released immediately and unconditionally.
Yours sincerely
